For carrier oils, these are usually a plant oil such as jojoba, coconut, sweet almond, apricot kernel oil.

Varicose Veins

My mother had varicose veins. They were quite painful and often when we were little and running around she would say “mind my legs” because if they were knocked or bumped they would cause her quite a bit of grief !

Try this massage oil. Massage gently from the bottom of the vein upwards. Repeat morning and evening. This recipe is enough for one application.

2 tablespoons melted virgin coconut oil

15 drops cypress essential oil

10 drops lemon essential oil

5 drops lavender oil

Sunburn

I know. We are supposed to wear sunscreen so this doesn’t happen ! But, well, you know…..

Sunburn is classified as a first degree burn as it only affects the outer skin. It can be effectively soothed using essential oils. Try this combo to soothe your scorched skin.

2 tablespoons aloe vera gel

6 tablespoons lavender essential oil

6 tablespoons chamomile essential oil


Or try this spritz:

50ml distilled water

2 tablespoons aloe vera gel

4 drops lavender essential oil

4 drops peppermint essential oil

Shake well before each use. The oils, being oils, won’t mix with water long term, hence the need to shake before each use.

Laryngitis

I used to always end up with laryngitis when I caught a cold. My family said it was a blessing - ha ha !

Try this simple massage blend in a carrier oil applied to the throat and chest.

5 drops lavender essential oil

4 drops chamomile essential oil

4 drops tea tree essential oil

Dermatitis

For many forms of skin upsets, lavender is a blessing. Add the following essential oils to a couple of tablespoons of carrier oil and massage on the unhappy skin to ease and soothe. Try using apricot kernel, avocado, evening primrose or jojoba oil as your carrier oil here.

4 drops lavender essential oil

6 drops geranium essential oil

3 drops either juniper or bergamot essential oil

A blend of rosewood, bergamot and lavender in your diffuser is good for setting the mood for a party

Geranium, lavender, sandalwood and rose will encourage people to unwind

Tub Teas

What are tub teas ?

Tub Teas are like tea bags for your bath. You can create the most luxurious bath and there is no messy cleanup when done !

Store in a reusable glass jar. Or add a bow, personal message and voila! A beautiful, thoughtful and practical gift.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup whole dried oats

  • 1 cup lavender buds or flowers

  • 1/2 cup coarse sea salt

  • 1/2 cup fine sea salt

  • 10 drops lavender essential oil

  • Muslin pouches 

Instructions:

  1. Blend oats in a food processor until there are no large pieces

  2. In a bowl, mix with lavender buds and both of the salts

  3. Mix in the lavender essential oil

  4. Scoop the mixture into pouches. Approximately 4 tablespoons in each bag. Tie tightly

  5. To use: place one bag into tub and allow to steep in the hot water
